The Tokyo metropolitan government decided Wednesday to relocate the Tsukiji market, Japan's largest fish market, in Chuo Ward to the Toyosu district of Koto Ward in early November 2016.

The metropolitan government agreed on the relocation schedule at the day's meeting with industry groups for the Tsukiji market.

Construction of the Toyosu market facility will be completed in spring 2016. The market will open after carpentry work and the installation of refrigeration equipment, the metropolitan government said, adding opening during the busy year-end period will be avoided.
