- Category:Event
A parade celebrating the enthronement of the Emperor took place on Sunday along a 4.6-kilometer course from the Imperial Palace to the Akasaka Imperial Palace in Minato Ward, with tens of thousands of cheering well-wishers lining the route.
The “Shukuga-Onretsu-no-gi” parade is one of the state affairs of “Sokui-no-rei” based on the constitution.
The Emperor and Empress left the Imperial Palace at 3 p.m. in a Toyota convertible specially built for the occasion.
From the Nijubashimae intersection, the car passed the main gate of the Diet Building before proceeding along Aoyama-dori Avenue and arriving at the Akasaka Imperial Palace at about 3:30 p.m.
The convoy consisted of some 50 vehicles, including those of Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko, as well as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
