The media has been invited to see an open-top car that will carry Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako in a procession in Tokyo later this month to celebrate the Emperor's enthronement.

The car, which was delivered to the Imperial Palace in Tokyo last month, is based on Toyota Motor's Century sedan. It is more than 5 meters long and almost 2 meters wide.

The rear seat is 4 centimeters higher than the front, and the backrest is reclined at a 25-degree angle, which is said to be designed to enable spectators to see the couple well.

The car has been coated with many layers of paint to make it shinier than other vehicles available on the market. Reinforcements have been placed in the floor and elsewhere to strengthen its body.

The vehicle is currently being used for driver training. It will be rolled out on public roads outside the palace for the first time in the October 22 procession.
