Abe Orders Additional Anti-Virus Measures

  • Category:Event

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has instructed officials to draw up a second set of emergency measures against the new coronavirus within 10 days. He also pledged to send facemasks to the northern prefecture of Hokkaido, where infections are surging.

Abe gave the order at a task force meeting on Sunday. He asked the officials to use about 2.5 billion dollars in reserve funds from the current fiscal year's budget.

The Prime Minister repeated his pledge to support parents who will have to take time off work to take care of children after the government requested the temporary closure of schools.

Abe said the government will also provide financial support for businesses that will be affected by the cancellation of events.

He said the government will purchase masks from manufacturers and deliver them to Hokkaido.

The Prime Minister also instructed the officials to promote ways to prevent mass infections. He said gatherings in places with poor ventilation should be avoided.

Abe also instructed the officials to provide more information on the virus on government websites.
