Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Minister Akihiro Ota and Vietnamese Construction Minister Trinh Dinh Dung signed memorandums of understanding on Saturday to promote bilateral cooperation in eight areas, including urban development in Vietnam.
The eight areas also include development of a better legal system related to construction and sewage system projects in Vietnam.
The two countries will hold a meeting of vice minister-level officials in Hanoi as early as February to discuss how the projects included in the agreements will be carried out.
In their talks, Ota asked Dung to allow Japanese businesses to take part in a northern Hanoi eco-city project and proposed stronger cooperation between the two countries’ construction industries.
The Vietnamese minister signaled readiness to consider Ota’s request and proposal.
On Sunday, Ota is scheduled to attend ceremonies to commemorate the completion of a second terminal at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, which was constructed with Japanese official development assistance, as well as the Nhat Tan Bridge and the connecting road, which link central Hanoi with the airport.
