Sekisui House, Marriott to Open Roadside Stop Hotels

  • Category:Stay
TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Sekisui House Ltd. and major U.S. hotel chain Marriott International Inc. said Wednesday they will open hotels adjacent to “michi no eki” roadside rest and shopping facilities in cooperation with regional municipalities.

From autumn 2020, Sekisui House and Marriott will open hotels without meal services at 15 locations in the prefectures of Kyoto, Wakayama, Tochigi, Mie and Gifu.

The hotels will offer a total of 1,000 rooms. The two companies plan a nationwide business expansion.

“We want to support regional tourism industries” by helping increase local consumption by tourists, Sekisui House President Yoshihiro Nakai told a press conference in Tokyo.

The hotels will accommodate not only foreign visitors but Japanese tourists.

“We want to bring out the potential of each region, such as culture, traditional crafts and other specialties, by turning merely passing points into places to stay,” Nakai said, expressing hopes for local revitalization through the michi no eki transformation project.Speech
