Airlines In Hong Kong Plan Ticket Giveaways To Japan In Bid To Boost Tourism Sector

  • Category:Tourism
Registration for free flight tickets from several cities in Japan will begin on Monday, as part of Hong Kong’s campaign to lure back visitors and revitalize the tourism sector that was hit hard during the pandemic.

Cathay Pacific, the city’s flagship carrier, will give away a total of 12,000 free economy-class round-trip tickets for flights to Hong Kong from Narita, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo.

The distribution of tickets will begin from noon on June 26 until 23:59 p.m. on July 2 under a lottery system. Passengers will still have to pay taxes, fees and other surcharges linked to the flight.

To qualify, entrants must be over the age of 18 and have a membership with Cathay Pacific or sign up before participating in the giveaway.
All entrants will be notified of the results via email on July 12, while messages to the winners will contain details about how to redeem the flight offer.

Winners have one month to book trips using a unique ticket redemption code and the tickets will be valid for a trip of two to seven days between July 12, 2023 to April 11, 2024.

Two other local Hong Kong airlines will also hold ticket giveaways.
From June 26 to July 9, HK Express will provide 14,900 free round-trip tickets to Japanese residents on a first-come, first-served basis.

The start time of the campaign is yet to be announced. Entrants, who need to be 12 years old or older, are required to make bookings for their trip between June 30 and March 30 on the HK Express website during the giveaway period.

Hong Kong Airlines will also give away free tickets from Narita, Osaka, Okinawa, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo from June 27 to June 29. No other information is available at the moment.

The initiatives are part of a 700,000-ticket giveaway for travelers keen to visit Hong Kong and local residents eager for overseas trips.

It is handled by local airlines under the city’s “Hello Hong Kong” campaign announced in February, with the aim of enticing 1.5 million visitors following the city’s lifting of COVID-19 restrictions.
