HondaJet Soars to 1st Place in ’17 Small-jet Orders

TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Honda Motor Co. said Thursday that the HondaJet, manufactured by a U.S. subsidiary, became the most delivered small jet in the world for the first time on an annual basis in 2017.

According to the Japanese firm, shipments of the Honda Aircraft Co.-made business jet grew some 87 percent year on year to 43 units, outpacing 39 units for the Citation M2 of Cessna Aircraft Co. of the United States.

The strong performance reflected the HondaJet’s roomy cabin and high fuel efficiency, Honda said.

“We would like to thank our customers for choosing the HondaJet for its value, features and performance,” Honda Aircraft President and Chief Executive Officer Michimasa Fujino said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing to create new value in business aviation across the world.”

The list price of the seven-seater plane is $4.9 million.
The aircraft’s unique over-the-wing engine mount configuration made its cabin spacious, Honda said. The plane travels faster than conventional small jets thanks to its lighter body and reduced air resistance, the firm said.

Honda Aircraft has so far received orders for over 100 units of the HondaJet, excluding those that have already been delivered.

The HondaJet is sold in North and Latin America, Europe and Southeast Asia. Honda Aircraft started taking orders in China last month.
The aircraft already captured the top spot in global small jet shipments in the first half of 2017.

The U.S. unit expects this year’s HondaJet shipments to total 50-55 units.
