TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Toyota Motor Corp. launched on Monday an all-new taxi featuring “koiai” traditional Japanese deep indigo blue, aiming to tap demand from foreigners traveling in Japan.

The JPN Taxi (Japan Taxi) is the first taxi model released by the automaker in 22 years.

Toyota, which has a domestic taxi market share of 90 percent, hopes that the new vehicle will replace one in three taxis in Tokyo by the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

Priced from ¥3,277,800, the five-seater JPN Taxi has a large rear-left door featuring power sliding and is wheelchair-accessible, the automaker said.
“Taxis are one of the legacies that can be left by the Tokyo Olympics,” Toyota President Akio Toyoda said at a launch event in Tokyo.
