U.S.-Japan Business Relations to be Discussed

  • Category:Other
INDIANAPOLIS - The Japan-America Society of Indiana will Wednesday host its annual summit, focusing on the business trends and developments in the U.S.-Japan relationship.

The Japan Currents Symposium 2020 brings together business and government leaders, and other stakeholders, to discuss business at the national and local levels.

One likely topic for discussion is the recently approved trade deal between the two countries. In September, President Trump and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced the deal. It went into effect on January 1.

Indiana agriculture groups favored the deal as it reduces Japanese tariffs on $2 billion worth of imports on U.S. beef and pork.

JASI says the keynote luncheon speakers are Kenichi Okada, Consul-General of Japan in Chicago; and Stephen Akard, ambassador and director of the Office of Foreign Missions for the U.S. Department of State.

Attendees will also hear from the Reverend Daiko Matsuyama, deputy head priest of the Taizo-in Zen Buddhist Temple in Kyoto.

JASI says he’ll speak on the influence of Zen Buddhist principles in Japanese society and business relationships.

The conference is being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Indy.
