American Airlines and Jetstar Japan have agreed to a codeshare partnership between the two airlines, giving American's customers greater access to domestic destinations in Japan.
The agreement was announced Wednesday by Fort Worth-based American Airline Groups (Nasdaq: AAL) and Jetstar.
"Jetstar Japan's network provides our customers with access to more destinations in Japan," said Andrew Nocella, American Airlines' chief marketing officer. "We also look forward to welcoming Jetstar Japan's customers on our direct flights from Tokyo Narita International Airport to our hubs in Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth and Los Angeles."
Under the codeshare agreement, Amerian will put its "AA" code on services operated by Jetstar Japan between Tokyo Narita Airport and Kukuoka Matsuyama, Okinawa (Naha), Osaka (Kansai) and Sapporo (Shin Chitose). The first flights under the agreement will begin on Oct. 26.
The agreement comes at a time when increased travel between DFW and Japan will be likely as Toyota moves its U.S. headquarters to Plano.
Jetstar is a partnership between Japan Airlines, Qantas Group, Mitsubishi Corp. and Century Tokyo Leasing Corp. The airline operates 18 Airbus A320 airplanes across 10 destinations in Japan.
