▼ Company Heads Urge Hires to Seek Challenges

TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Companies across Japan held welcome ceremonies for their new employees on Monday, the first business day of fiscal 2017, with many top executives encouraging young workers to take on new challenges amid the changing business environment.
“Your mission is to create a new history for Toyota,” Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota Motor Corp., said at a ceremony to welcome some 2,100 new employees at the company’s headquarters in the city of Toyota, Aichi Prefecture.
“I don’t want you to think that your future security is guaranteed by getting jobs at a well-established company,” Toyoda said, urging young employees to keep striving with a sense of professionalism.
Naomi Hirose, president of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc., the operator of the disaster-crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant, said at its ceremony in Tokyo, “I want you to work on the reconstruction of Fukushima Prefecture, the plant’s decommissioning and a variety of other issues with a spirit of [taking on a] challenge.”

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. President Shunichi Miyanaga, speaking to new employees of his company, touched on the difficulty of developing the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, the first Japanese-developed small passenger jet.
“The MRJ is a long-held dream for the Japanese aircraft industry,” Miyanaga said. “We want to work tenaciously on its development.”
The MRJ, whose delivery has been delayed repeatedly, is being developed mainly by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp., a Mitsubishi Heavy subsidiary.
At a ceremony of Mazda Motor Corp. held at the company’s headquarters in Fuchu, Hiroshima Prefecture, its president, Masamichi Kogai, stressed the importance of continuing to strive even in adverse times.
“We need your collective strength to allow Mazda to adapt flexibly to changes,” Kogai said.
