▼ Telework Cars To Be Set Up On Tokaido, Sanyo Shinkansen Trains
- Category:Other
Central Japan Railway Co. and West Japan Railway Co. announced Thursday they will operate cars exclusively for teleworking passengers on Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen line trains from October. The companies hope to lift passenger demand that has sagged amid the coronavirus crisis.
Car No. 7 of all Nozomi trains between Tokyo and Hakata stations will become teleworker-only. The railways will accept seat reservations from Sept. 1 via the online booking services Express Ride and Smart EX. The fare is the same as that for ordinary reserved seats.
Teleworking car passengers can borrow smartphone battery chargers and mini-mouses free of charge on some trains between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka stations.
From September, a private booth will be set up in waiting rooms at Tokyo Station and elsewhere. Smoking areas set between the cars No. 7 and No. 8 on some Shinkansen trains will be refurnished as nonsmoking meeting spaces from spring next year.
