The Ministry of Industry said that Indonesia and Japan are again holding dialogue to develop the automotive industry, one of which is in the field of electric vehicles and carbon neutrality (CN) fuels, including biofuels.

"One of these collaborations is realized by establishing dialogue on automotive industry policies, especially related to efforts to reduce emissions," said the Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) Industry Ministry of Industry, Taufiek Bawazier in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday, 26th of February 2023.

Taufiek explained an overview of the Indonesian automotive industry as well as strategies and policies for the development of electric vehicles (EV) in Indonesia. This includes the EV development roadmap, EV ecosystem and investment in the battery industry in Indonesia at The 4th Automotive Dialogue Indonesia-Japan in Jakarta.

"As a country with the best automotive industry in the world, we believe cooperation with Japan can support efforts to achieve carbon neutrality," said Taufiek.

Director General of the Secretariat of the Minister of Trade Policy (Bureau of Manufacturing Industry), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Japan Fujimoto Takeshi explained that Japan's latest policy for carbon neutrality (CN) includes the promotion of electrification, hydrogen and carbon neutral fuels.

Meanwhile, METI's Director of International Trade Policy for Automotive, Mr. Hirofumi Oima, said that currently a cooperation program has been established between Indonesia and Japan in the electrification of vehicles and CN fuels, including biofuels.

On this occasion, representatives of the Japanese automotive manufacturing association were also present. Chair of the Japan Automotive Manufacturers' Association (JAMA) Asia Experts Group, Enomoto Masato who conveyed the contribution of Japanese car manufacturers to Indonesia, he proposed a cooperation program between Indonesia and Japan in studying multiple pathway approaches to achieve zero emission in Indonesia.

Director of Bioenergy, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Edi Wibowo provided information on the development of the latest biofuels as a source of clean, sustainable energy as well as several strategies to advance the implementation of biofuels to achieve zero emission.

The Indonesia-Japan automotive dialogue was also attended by several ministries, institutions and associations from both Indonesia and Japan, including the Ministry of Transportation, the National Research and Innovation Agency, the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), PT Pertamina, and the Indonesian Association of Biofuel Producers ( APROBI).

The forum is expected to become a platform for strategic partnerships between the two countries, providing information on the latest situation and the latest policies, especially in the automotive industry.

On the same occasion, Taufiek stated that the government continues to provide support for the growth of the automotive industry in the country.

The growth of the transportation industry in 2022 increased by 10.67 percent, or above the growth rate for the processing industry, which is 5.01 percent.

As a form of support, the reference price for energy efficient and affordable motorized vehicles or low cost green cars (KBH2/LCGC) will undergo an adjustment of five percent.
