▼ Honda Plans 5-Day Shutdown In August At Plant In Western Japan

Honda Motor Co. will halt operations at its Suzuka Factory in the city of Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, for five days in August.
A global shortage of semiconductors and a lag in the supply of parts due to surging coronavirus infections in Southeast Asia are factors behind the decision.
Officials said the Suzuka Factory will stop production from Aug. 2-6 and compensate for the loss by operating on holidays from September.
The factory manufactures the N-Box mini-vehicle and the Vezel compact SUV. The plant has a production capacity of about 2,000 units per day.
The rapid increase in coronavirus infections in Southeast Asia is beginning to have a widespread impact on the automotive industry.
Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda have halted production in Malaysia since June 1, following a lockdown in that country. In Indonesia, several parts suppliers have been forced to reduce production and take other measures.
The impact of the coronavirus on the industry is likely to grow as auto parts made in Southeast Asia are used in vehicle production in many countries.
Production adjustments are also continuing due to the semiconductor shortage.
The domestic production volume of Japan’s eight major auto manufacturers from January to May was 3.29 million units, down about 17% from two years ago, before the coronavirus pandemic began.
