Projection mapping events have grown in popularity in Japan across recent years, particularly when held at historic venues. The use of digital art means that no structures are damaged, and allows them to be appreciated in an entirely different way. One such event at Okayama's Tsuyama Castle is running until late September, and it showcases a variety of illuminations with a cherry blossom theme. The Tsuyama Castle Night Fantasia pays homage to the sakura festival held at the castle during spring, with various lighting effects designed to emulate the pretty pink flowers. For instance, one section will be illuminated by lanterns with sakura petal-shaped cutouts. The event organizers recommend around 40 to 60 minutes to see all of the displays at the venue, and adult admission is priced at ¥ 500.

Getting there

Tsuyama Castle is located approximately 15 minutes on foot from JR Tsuyama Station, which is served by the Kishin Line and the Tsuyama Line.

For those who opt to drive, parking is available at the Tsuyama Tourist Center and surrounding lots.
