Moshi Moshi Sakura room is a gorgeous space where kawaii meets luxury. Located in a rather unassuming building with an air of industrial Tokyo, this penthouse Airbnb boasts adorable furnishings and its own roof terrace in the center of Harajuku.

The MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON Project aims to diffuse Japanese pop culture across the world. With Moshi Moshi Rooms' Sakura room they have taken the concept of sakura, the pink frothy cherry blossoms that take over Japan every spring, and turned them into an immersive experience. Central to the rooms concept is the huge cherry tree that blooms across the ceiling, where sakura float above the bed and lull you into a night of sweet dreams. The apartment has been finished with sugary pink details and adorable bird accessories which bring together the spring-time charm.

The apartment is a mixture of kawaii shades; pastel pink, white and dusky rose. The furnishings are sumptuous with thick soft carpet, fluffy cushions and cozy seats. Facing the bed is a huge vanity, with seats for four, ideal for getting glam with your friends, or slicking on a classic Japanese sheet mask. Whatever you chose to do in this room, it’s undeniable that your phone or camera is going to be glued to your hand. This quasi monochromatic room feels like the set of a Kyary Pamyu Pamyu or Katy Perry music video and makes for the perfect pink Instagram post. Personally, I’d recommend pairing your stay with a set of pink pajamas, a stick of cotton candy bought from nearby Takeshita-dori and a cosmopolitan to top off the look.

This Airbnb comes with a fairly hefty price tag around $250 to $365 per night, but it is one of the most luxurious and beautiful rooms I have seen in Tokyo with space for up to 6 guests. The apartment is airy, with tonnes of plush seating, it also has a google home, small kitchen unit with fridge, and plenty of extra beds so you can invite round a few friends for a luxe night. Besides being beautifully decorated, this Airbnb also boasts a spacious roof terrace. Though the room itself has large full-length windows, the roof terrace offers a fantastic view over Harajuku and is ideal for entertaining guests, sharing a few beers or pink cocktails. The terrace can be rented out for events, so if you are particularly taken during your stay, you can always opt to come back and host your own party, evening yoga session, barbecue or whatever you fancy. Moshi Moshi Sakura room is located in central Harajuku, turning left after cheap and cheerful Takeshita Dori and heading down the hipper and more vintage Harajuku Dori, you’ll find the Airbnb tucked away from the throngs of weekend Harajuku crowds. It’s perfectly located to enjoy the best of Harajuku’s kawaii culture yet acts as a real oasis in the city. I checked in at around 4:30 after mooching through the local shops and picking up a classic Harajuku crepe. The staff were welcoming, and even brought me snacks from a local cafe and recommended visiting the popular Streamer coffee which stands opposite the building. The Sakura room is surrounded by cool stores, vintage clothing shops, restaurants and unique bars, plenty to keep you busy should you chose to venture out. Staying in this place is a real once in a lifetime experience, so I decided to invite over a friend and spend as much time as possible in the pink cloud above Harajuku. We used the Google Home to blast some cheery J-pop tunes and after picking up some skincare products from Takeshita Dori held a pampering session.

I'd recommend renting this place for a night in, or out, with friends in the city, its a great hub for exploring Harajuku, but most of all its a truly beautiful and luxurious experience. I'm following the space on Instagram and can't wait to see the creative uses people have.

Getting there

10 minute walk from JR Harajuku Station.

Leaving Harajuku Station walk down Takeshita Dori, cross the road at the end, and take a left onto Harajuku Dori. At the end of this street take a right and cross at the crosswalk towards the Chrome Hearts store.
