Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto Offers 'Enjoy the Summer' Accommodation Plan

  • Category:Stay

KYOTO - The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto has launched its “Enjoy The Summer” accommodation plan, available until Sept 30. The hotel is offering a 10% discount off regular rates of accommodation, and includes complimentary breakfast, allowing guests to make the most of the many traditional Japanese events taking place in Kyoto throughout the summer.

Kyoto is home to some of the biggest and best traditional summer festivals, many of which take place just minutes away from The Ritz-Carlton. Guests staying during July will notice the festival atmosphere as soon as they step outside the hotel, as Kyoto’s famous Gion Matsuri (Gion Festival) continues until the end of the month. The highlight of the festival is the yamaboko junko float parade which passes through Kyoto City Hall located just a 5-minute walk away from the hotel.

The festivities continue into August, when the Daimonji Gozan Okuribi, also known as the Daimonji Bonfire, takes place annually on Aug 16.

This festival is held to see off the souls of ancestors who, according to traditional beliefs, come to visit during the summer, and features gigantic Chinese characters (and other motifs) made from fires built on the mountain slopes surrounding the city.

In fact, many guests staying at hotel this summer won’t even need to leave the comfort of their guest rooms in order to view the festivities outside.

The hotel boasts 70 guest rooms, including both luxury rooms and suites, that face out onto the Kamogawa river, providing staying guests with a glimpse of the Daimonji Gozan Okuribi festival taking place on the surrounding mountains.

In particular, Suite TSUKIMI boasts a beautiful terrace featuring a private Japanese garden, and makes the perfect, most intimate venue for viewing the Okuribi festival.
