A Ukrainian parliamentary delegation visiting Japan is calling on countries to put more pressure on Russia. This is the first time that a delegation from Kyiv has visited Japan since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine began in February.

The group consists of five members of the Ukrainian parliament. It arrived at Narita Airport near Tokyo on Saturday. Among the lawmakers are an economic expert and a former soldier, who fought against pro-Russian armed groups.

The lawmakers are scheduled to stay in Japan until October 26. They plan to meet with their Japanese counterparts, government officials and business leaders.

They are expected to ask the Japanese government to put more pressure on Russia, as Moscow's forces have been continuing to conduct missile attacks on Ukrainian cities.

The lawmakers also plan to ask Japanese officials to assist in the effort to reconstruct plants, roads and other infrastructure facilities in Ukraine that Russia's forces have destroyed.

Lawmaker Galyna Mykhailiuk told NHK that the Russian invasion forced the planned trip to be postponed many times.

She said the members of the group want to exchange views with Japanese officials on various matters, such as the reconstruction of destroyed cities, nuclear threats, and territorial issues. Mykhailiuk pointed out that Japan also has territorial disputes with Russia.
