  • Category:Other

Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi was invited to the G7 Summit slated to be held in Hiroshima, Japan, May 21. Indonesia was invited due to its status as the host of the 42th ASEAN Summit this year.

"Mr. President is indeed invited by Japan," said Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah when contacted by Tempo, Saturday, May 13.

However, Faizasyah could not confirm if Jokowi would attend the global event. He said that the palace would announce if Jokowi will attend the meeting.

"The President's activities will be announced by the palace. Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Ministry will make the preparations," said Faizasyah.

President Jokowi had previously been invited to attend the G7 Summit in Germany.

The G7 country members include the U.S., Britain, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, and France. Last year, Indonesia was presented as a G7 partner country, as well as the G20 Presidency.
