Abe Hosts Ramadan Dinner for Envoys from Muslim World

  • Category:Event
TOKYO - Prime Minister Shinzo Abe hosted Friday an "iftar" dinner party at his office in Tokyo, inviting ambassadors and diplomats observing Ramadan from 38 countries and regions.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Abe told his guests that the spirit of Islam is in common with the values held dear by Japanese people.

Iftar is the meal eaten by Muslims after sunset to break their daily fast during Ramadan, which this year is roughly a one-month period from May 27.

Iftar dinners have been held at the prime minister's office almost every year since Junichiro Koizumi hosted one in 2005.
