THE YOMIURI SHIMBUN
Apple Inc. of the United States on Friday raised the prices by ¥8,640 to ¥12,960 in Japan for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models without subscriber identity module locks.
So-called SIM-free mobile phones allow users to choose carriers. An official of Apple’s Japanese arm said that the company adjusted prices to reflect currency market fluctuations because the yen has depreciated since the new iPhones were released on Sept. 19.
According to Apple, 16-gigabyte, SIM-free iPhone 6 models are priced at ¥81,864, up ¥8,640, and the price for such iPhone 6 Plus models is up the same margin at ¥94,824. The firm did not raise the prices for SIM-locked models sold by NTT Docomo Inc., SoftBank Mobile Corp. and KDDI Corp.
