Two More Found Infected With Coronavirus In Japan

  • Category:Other
Japan's health ministry says two more people have been infected with the new coronavirus in Japan.

It says one of them is a man in his 60s in Nara Prefecture who has no record of staying in the Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak.

The ministry said the man is a bus driver who drove for tourists from Wuhan twice in January.

The man complained of chills and a cough on January 14.
Last Saturday, he was taken to a hospital in the prefecture. He was confirmed infected on Tuesday.

The man is the first person in Japan to be confirmed infected despite having no record of staying in Wuhan.

The other patient is a man in his 40s who lives in Wuhan.
He was diagnosed with pneumonia on Sunday at a hospital in Aichi Prefecture.

The number of people confirmed infected with the virus in Japan has reached six.

Professor Hitoshi Oshitani of Tohoku University says it has been assumed that human-to-human transmission can occur in Japan.

He says the situation in China suggests that it's difficult to contain the new virus. He says it could spread more in Japan, and that preventive measures are needed.
