I make my V sign at an angle of 30 degrees — Hi, it’s Yukirinu!! ... This is the now-familiar greeting that I always start my videos with. But I’m sure many people don’t know me yet, so let me introduce myself.
I majored in a science and engineering field, so I’m the kind of person who gets hyped up whenever something makes me wonder why. I’m a female YouTuber who posts mainly “give-it-a-try”-type videos aimed at satisfying my own curiosity. I hope you remember my name through this column.
In this first installment from me, I’ll write about how I got started.
I began making videos in my senior year at university. I originally had a dream to be involved in the creation of robots, and majored in mechanical engineering. But my studies were mostly about things like engine design and automobiles, and I felt at the time that it was a bit different from what I wanted to do.
Then suddenly I had a revelation: I would do live commentary of video games, which I’d watched for a long time. I fancied doing that live commentary thing on PlayStation and smartphone games.
I suppose the typical student would have been struggling with the decision of whether to go on to graduate school or get a job. I was the type who went my own way, so much so that whenever I was with my friends, they would just accept whatever I did, brushing it off with “Well, that’s Yukirinu. Nothing we can do about it.” That kind of personality may have been for the best — by continuing to do what was fun for me, it just became my job.
I’m sure you readers also have your own worries about the future, so I think it’s nice to search for whatever gives you the passion to say to yourself, “I want to do this.” My decision surprised my parents at first, but now everyone in my family is very supportive. My granddad and grandma have even appeared in my videos (lol).
