  • Category:Other

Yoshitaka Sakurada, the minister in charge of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday to take responsibility for controversial remarks he made in a speech.

Earlier on the day, Sakurada attended a party in Tokyo for House of Representatives member Hinako Takahashi, who is originally from Iwate Prefecture, which was severely damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

“Takahashi is more important than reconstruction [from the disaster],” Sakurada said in a speech at the party.
