Indonesia's Transportation Minister In Japan To Offer Infrastructure Project

Indonesia's Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi arrived in Japan today, June 21.

He is there to meet a number of Japanese government officials and the private sector to discuss the acceleration of construction and completion of a number of transportation projects in Indonesia.

Minister Budi met the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, Masafumi Mori; Japan's Minister of Transport, Tetsuo Saito; and the Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Tadashi Maeda.

"We will also ask the Japanese government to encourage their private corporations to participate in transportation infrastructure projects in Indonesia," Budi Karya said in a press release, Tuesday.

Three infrastructure projects were the focus of the discussion: the North-South and East-West MRT projects, the Patimban Port Phase 1-2 (Packages 5 and 6), and the construction of the Proving Ground.

Budi said that Indonesia and Japan have good diplomatic relations that have lasted for more than 60 years. "The two countries agreed to continue increasing cooperation in various sectors, including transportation," he said.

Tomorrow, the Minister will meet Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Shinichi Yamanaka; former Japanese PM Yasuo Fukuda; and the president & CEO of Toyota, Tsusho Corporation, Ichiro Kashitani.
