  • Category:Driving
TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Nissan Motor Co. said Monday that the passenger car division of its joint venture in China has begun to produce the first electric vehicle model to be launched in the Chinese market under the major Japanese automaker’s brand.

The Sylphy Zero Emission started to roll off the line at a plant in Huado in Guangzhou, which is operated by the Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co. unit of Dongfeng Motor Co., the joint venture between Nissan and major Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Group Co.

The subcompact sedan, slated to be released in September, was developed based on Nissan’s Leaf electric vehicle. The new vehicle can travel up to 338 kilometers under Chinese standards on a single battery charge.

Under its business program through 2022, Nissan aims to release 20 or more electrified vehicle models, including hybrid vehicles, in China.
Of them, the company plans to put on sale six electric vehicle models by 2019. The Sylphy Zero Emission will be the first of these.
