The Japanese government has announced a new digital nomad visa for workers earning at least US$68,200 per year
The visa is due to launch at the end of March, and will allow remote workers from 49 countries to stay in Japan for up to six months.
Workers must be able to prove that they earn an annual, salaried wage of at least JP¥10 million ($68,200) to apply for the visa, according to a report by Forbes.
The visa will allow foreign visitors to stay in the country for up to six months – approximately double the length of time afforded to travellers under Japan’s standard 90-day tourist visa.
The intention of the new visa is to draw in foreign digital nomads with the aim of stimulating innovation.
China is currently trialling visa-free travel for citizens from six countries, for a period of up to 15 days.
