The Japanese government will allow Indonesian nationals to enter the country visa-free.
Starting from December, the government will not require Indonesian visitors to Japan to obtain a visa as long as they submit in advance their e-passports to Japanese missions in the country.
An e-passport has an IC chip containing personal data, including photo and address.
The Japanese government hopes to increase the number of foreign visitors per year to 20 million by the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo.
Tourists from Thailand and Malaysia have been allowed to enter Japan without a visa since last year.
Last week, the Japanese government extended multiple-entry visas for nationals of Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam for up to 5 years.
