▼ Two Quakes Jolt Eastern Japan

TOKYO - Two earthquakes jolted eastern Japan on Wednesday morning but there was no tsunami alert issued, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The first quake, which had a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 , hit at 2:02 a.m. The meteorological agency said it struck at a depth of about 10 kilometers in northern Ibaraki Prefecture and registered a 4 in Ibaraki, Fukushima, Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama and Chiba prefectures.
Only one injury was reported -- a 71-year-old woman in Chiba fell from bed and sustained a minor arm injury, Kyodo News said.
The second quake occurred at 7:16 a.m. and had a preliminary magnitude of 4.6. It originated at a depth of 50 kilometers in southern Ibaraki Prefecture. It registered a 4 in Ibaraki, Tochigi, Saitama and Chiba prefectures. It registered a 3 in Gunma Prefecture and in parts of Tokyo.
JR East said the Tohoku shinkansen Line suffered a power outage, with operations of seven bullet trains temporarily suspended and other trains delayed by up to 15 minutes, Kyodo reported.
