Tokujin Yoshioka Creates New Prism Installation for Shiseido Gallery, Tokyo

  • Category:Event
Japanese artist and design extraordinaire Tokujin Yoshioka will create a new prism-themed installation at Shiseido Gallery in central Tokyo.

Once again Yoshioka is returning to his regular preoccupation: the relationship between natural phenomenon, in this case light and rainbows, and materials, here reflective glass.

He will create a new prism sculpture that immerses visitors in rainbow rays. The exhibition runs at Shiseido Gallery in Ginza from January 13th to March 26th.

Previous Tokujin Yoshioka triumphs include a glass tea house at a temple in Kyoto, a “rainbow church”, a “disappearing” transparent chair on the streets of Roppongi, and a “straw tornado”.

Shiseido Gallery is one of the most popular art venues in Tokyo. Although a cosmetics firm, Shiseido operates the free space along with an annual art award to promote creativity and the arts. Other similar brand-run venues in Tokyo include Le Forum, inside the Maison Hermes Ginza store, and Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo in Omotesando.
