NHK has learned that Japan's government is considering postponing for the time being the celebratory procession in Tokyo that had been scheduled to take place after the Emperor's enthronement ceremony on Tuesday next week.

The government cites the need to deal with the extensive damage caused by Typhoon Hagibis.

The enthronement ceremony and a banquet will be held as scheduled.
The government will decide on a date for the procession after determining progress in rescue and relief efforts.
