▼ Cardcaptor Sakura Brings Anime Flair to Your Hair with Beautiful Traditional Japanese Hairpin
- Category:Souvenir
The magical girl often dons a cap for her anime adventures, but you won’t need one with this kanzashi keeping your hairstyle in place.
We usually don’t think of elementary school students as fashion icons, but there’s no denying that Sakura Kinomoto, the star of anime and manga Cardcaptor Sakura, has a definite sense of style. Sure, she may be only 10 years old at the start of the series, but more than two decades after her debut, fans are still in love with her gorgeously girlish ensembles.
But like we said, Cardcaptor Sakura debuted more than 20 years ago. So while the upcoming sequel anime is likely to bring some fresh young faces to the fandom, most existing fans are probably a little past the age where they feel comfortable stepping out in a dress with angel wings sewn to the back or carrying around a magic wand. Thankfully, anime retailer extraordinaire Animate offers a feminine yet sophisticated way to give a nod to Sakura, appropriately enough in the form of a traditional Japanese hair accessory.
This kanzashi, or hairpin, makes extensive use of the artistic motifs Cardcaptor Sakura creators Clamp have been so fond of employing in the series, with stars, feathers, and, of course, cherry blossoms (called “sakura” in Japanese, the same as Sakura herself) all present and accounted for.

While kanzashi are primarily used by women putting their hair up when wearing a kimono, the Cardcaptor Sakura hairpin has enough of a modern feel that it wouldn’t look at all out of place accenting a more contemporary outfit.
Priced at 5,832 yen (US$50), the kanzashi can be ordered here through Animate’s online store, with shipping scheduled for early March. And if you need even more hairstyling help from Sakura, the kind-hearted anime heroine is happy to oblige.
