Confirmation of Masato Kudo's heart-breaking death came on Friday after his club Tegevajaro Miyazaki made the announcement after unsuccessful brain surgery on the forward
Ex- Japan international striker Masato Kudo has tragically died at the tender age of 32 years old following brain surgery, as confirmed by his club Tegevajaro Miyazaki.
Kudo also previously donned the shirts of Kashiwa Reysol, Canadian outfit Vancouver Whitecaps and Australian side Brisbane Roar, was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, which is a buildup of fluid in the ventricles in the brain. He was hospitalised on Oct. 3 after falling ill a day earlier and sadly died over a fortnight later.
The forward was a fan favourite at Kashiwa Reysol, given he played a starring role in the club's memorable run to the semi-final of the 2013 Asian Champions League by scoring six goals in 12 games over the course of the tournament.
During his four outings for the Japan national side, Kudo netted twice. His current outfit released a statement following the heart-breaking news, adding: "He made a significant impact in the first division, He played for Japan and had a great track record but he stayed humble."
"He had a great attitude, caring about teammates, the club and supporters. We are devastated that such a great player has passed away so early."
Tributes have since flooded in from a number of his former sides, with Brisbane coach Warren Moon explaining: "He had such a wonderful personality and always turned up to training every morning with a beaming smile on his face.
"He will be greatly missed and our hearts go out to his wife and young daughter at this sad time."
The Whitecaps also sent their condolonces, adding: "Vancouver Whitecaps FC are mourning the passing of Masato Kudo.
"Kudo was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was kind, gracious, and his smile would light up the room. Whitecaps FC offer our condolences to Kudo's family and friends at this difficult time."
