Dancing For The Gods

  • Category:Festival

Fisherman adorned in female kimono and makeup dance on a ship decorated with Japanese cedar leaves and red and white banners off the coast of Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, on Thursday.

The dance is part of a festival for Ose Shrine to pray for safety at sea and a bountiful catch, and is said to have first been performed to appease ocean deities.
