▼ Construction Begins On Japan's Tallest Building
- Category:Other
Construction workers have broken ground on a new Tokyo landmark. The 385-meter Torch Tower will be the tallest skyscraper in Japan when completed in 2028.
Property developer Mitsubishi Estate held a groundbreaking ceremony with its partners in the project on Wednesday.
The firm's President & CEO, Nakajima Atsushi, said, "Japan's tallest skyscraper is symbolic. We will create the most attractive building in the country."
The building will have 62 stories above ground and four in the basement. It will contain office space for 20-thousand workers, as well as residences, a luxury hotel, and a 2,000 capacity hall.
Torch Tower is part of a redevelopment project around Tokyo Station. A 45-story building with offices and commercial facilities opened there in March. Other plans are also underway in the area.
