Tokyo Reports 711 Coronavirus Cases; Osaka Records 1,153

TOKYO - The Tokyo metropolitan government on Tuesday reported 711 new cases of the coronavirus, up 306 from Monday. Osaka continued to report the most number of cases in the nation, recording 1,153 new infections.

By age group, people in their 20s (175 cases) and their 30s (148) accounted for the highest numbers, while 133 cases were aged 60 and over.

The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is 50, up three from Monday, health officials said. The nationwide figure is 769, up 31 from Monday.

Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 4,335. After Osaka and Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Hyogo (427), Saitama (207), Aichi (190), Kanagawa (157), Fukuoka (151), Kyoto (120), Okinawa (115), Chiba (106), Hokkaido (106), Nara (80), Wakayama (55), Miyagi (54), Shiga (44), Saga (38), Okayama (38), Mie (37), Gifu (36), Niigata (34), Ibaraki (33), Kumamoto (33) and Gunma (32).

The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 38.
