▼ Tokyo To Work With Major Japanese Newspaper Company On Neighborhood Patrol
- Category:Other
The Tokyo government has made an agreement with a major Japanese newspaper to allow its foreign delivery staff to take part in efforts to watch over children in the city's neighborhoods.
Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko and President Muraoka Akitoshi of the Yomiuri Shimbun Tokyo headquarters attended a ceremony to sign the memorandum on Tuesday.
The agreement says foreign staff on delivery rounds will try to help children who appear to be in trouble, and contact police if necessary.
Eight delivery persons from three countries, who work at five Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper distributers in Tokyo's Meguro and Ota wards, will be on the lookout from Thursday.
The Tokyo government aims to increase the participation of foreign residents in community crime prevention activities. Last year, it launched a program for foreign workers at convenience stores to help ensure the safety of children in neighborhoods.
Koike said she hopes Tokyo's effort will be an opportunity to realize a cohesive society.
