YS-11 Takes Off Again

  • Category:Event
TAKAMATSU (Jiji Press) — Aircraft fans flocked to Takamatsu Airport in Kagawa Prefecture on Friday as the YS-11 propeller aircraft, the first Japanese-developed passenger airplane, took off for its first flight in three years.

It is the only private sector-held YS-11 airplane that can fly, according to its owner, Aero Lab International, based in Yao, Osaka Prefecture.

The company won an auction for the airplane in December 2014 and flew it to Takamatsu Airport in May 2015.

On Friday, the YS-11 plane set off for its new home, Noto Airport in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, from Takamatsu.

Facing difficulties keeping the airplane at Takamatsu Airport, Aero Lab, an aircraft trader, decided to accept Japan Aviation Academy’s proposal to offer space at Noto Airport for free for the storage of the plane. The academy has a campus at the airport in Wajima.
