Murakami to Offer His Private Collection to Waseda University

  • Category:Other
Novelist Haruki Murakami, 69, has announced that he will donate or entrust books, manuscripts, vinyls and other materials that he owns to his alma mater Waseda University in Tokyo.

The private institution said it plans to use the collection to establish an international research center on Murakami’s literature.

The novelist made the announcement at a press conference on Sunday, which he said was his first in Japan in 37 years.

“I thought I would face many stern questions, but I’m glad everybody here is kind to me,” a smiling Murakami said.
