Japan's Emperor Naruhito to Visit Borobudur Temple on First Trip to Indonesia

 Japanese Emperor Naruhito is set to visit Indonesia on June 17-23, 2023, which is aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries. This will be their first official visit to Indonesia. 

“Through this visit, we hope to strengthen our friendly relationship with Indonesia,” the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said at an online press briefing followed in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 13.

Empress Owada Masako will accompany the Emporer during the seven-day visit to  Jakarta, Bogor, Bekasi, and Yogyakarta.

On Saturday afternoon, June 17, the Emperor will land in Jakarta. On June 18, they will visit the Integrated Raya Moda Train (MRT) Depot and the Pluit Reservoir Pump Station in Jakarta.

On June 19, President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana will welcome the Imperial couple and host a luncheon at Bogor Presidential Palace, followed by a dialogue.

On June 20, the Emperor is scheduled to lay flowers at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery and visit the National Museum.

On the same day, the Emperor will visit Darma Persada University and Mitra Industri Vocational High School (SMK), a school established in the MM2100 industrial area managed by a Japanese company in Bekasi.

He will also have an audience with representatives of Japanese citizens in Indonesia and JICA Foreign Cooperation Volunteers in the evening. 

On June 21, the Emperor will arrive in Yogyakarta for a visit to the Sabo Engineering Center and the Keraton Palace and attend a banquet held by Sultan Hamengku Buwono X at the Yogyakarta Palace.

On June 22, Japanese Emperor Naruhito will visit Borobudur Temple and leave for Jakarta in the afternoon. He will then return to Japan on June 23, 2023.
