▼ Japan To Allow More Overseas Arrivals
- Category:Other
NHK has learned that the Japanese government plans to increase a daily cap on the number of people entering the country from the current 2,000 to about 3,500 starting Monday.
Sources say the transport ministry has notified airlines of the decision.
The cap has been set at 2,000 since March as part of efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The figure includes both Japanese and foreigners with resident status reentering the country.
International flight operators have also been asked to limit the number of passengers.
The ministry says quarantine officials have more room now that the Tokyo Olympics have ended. It also says more overseas Japanese nationals want to return home.
All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines currently have passenger caps on international flights set at 3,400.
Both are working to increase them to 6,100.
